Jiāyùguān - Disappointing Artifacts

Jiāyùguān has its historic place as the last major stronghold of imperial China on the Silk Road, but unfortunately today you would need plenty of imagination to conjure this vision. The city is plain, with straight roads and generic buildings and the historic sites are (mostly) just recent reconstructions. The fort and the Great Wall section are so obviously fake, that the whole place is lacking its own distinct flair. The most interesting thing to visit was therefore the nightmarket.
